Its Stop the Deal campaign is trying to persuade Tesla stockholders to protest against the takeover offer that has been held by Elon Musk, who wants more details on fraudulent accounts on the platform.More than a dozen advocacy organizations have started a new campaign to Elon Musk to block his $44 billion takeover as the micro-blogging website stated that the waiting time for the deal was over pursuant to the HSR (Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements) Act in the US.
Its Stop the Deal campaign is convincing Tesla stockholders to protest against the takeover offer that was delayed by Musk in order to obtain more information about fraudulent accounts on the platform.
The group that includes non-profit organizations such as Accountable Tech, Center for Countering Digital Hate, GLAAD and MediaJustice have also asked Tesla members to request advertisers to cease spending on Twitter.
“Musk could sabotage the fundamental safeguards for content moderation and serve as a megaphone for extremists who promote white nationalism, hatred and disinformation as well as harassing, further jeopardizing communities that are marginalized. He will reinstate Twitter accounts of prominent figures prohibited for inciting violence or spreading dangerous information,” the group said in the statement.
“Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter is not likely to result in more “free speech” through the site,” Rahna Epting, executive director of MoveOn stated in an email.
“It is likely to create more extreme voices using the platform to incite hatred and violence, as well as harass. Platforms on social media that function as just toxic sludges of disinformation can be harmful to our society and policies.”In addition, Twitter said late on Friday that the transaction is “subject to the usual closing conditions, including the approval by Twitter stockholders as well as receiving of regulatory approvals as required”.
