CM Punk injured after winning the World Championship

CM Punk was made to step down in his role as AEW world champion only days after he had won the title.

An emotional and red-eyed Punk made an announcement during the All Elite Wrestling show “Rampage” last night he’s injured and must quit the title he took at the Sunday’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view. A temporary champion will be announced during the Forbidden Door pay-per-view , which will air on June 26. A Battle royal is scheduled to begin the following weekend’s “AEW Dynamite” and the winner will be matched against Jon Moxley in the main event in order to secure a place in the final match at Forbidden Door, where they will face another competitor to be decided.

“The negative is that I’m injured and need surgical intervention,” Punk said. “A number of things are broken, but the largest one being my heart as I am a lover of performing in front of everyone of you. And I wanted to take for a run.”

Punk 43 won the title which was his first title in the world since 2013 – after beating “Hangman” Adam Page at Double or Nothing in Las Vegas. He was scheduled to take on New Japan Pro Wrestling star Hiroshi Tanahashi to defend the AEW title at the companies premier pay-per view, “Forbidden Door”, at the United Center in his hometown of Chicago. Punk however views his injury as an obstacle will be overcome. Punk stated that he was ready to give up the title however, AEW the president Tony Khan did not want Punk to do so.

“I said I’d be there until the wheels fell off. They’re still on the road and, they haven’t fallen offyet,” Punk said. “It’s only it’s just that the one that was there turned out to break. I’ve been feeling better than I did this morning. But I’m here say that I’ve felt much more. It’s like a bump on the road. It hurts. It hurts like hell. I’d like to fight for you right now.”

In his debut appearance as champion in the week, on Dynamite, Punk could been observed limping after his tag-team match against FTR with Max Caster and the Gunn Club and then later, when he stepped out to face MJF in the video of fans after cameras were stopped. Fightful reports Punk was suffering from an injury to his foot.

Punk made his return to wrestling professional after a hiatus of seven years when Punk began his AEW debut in August. The plan was for this to be the third professional “Summer of Punk” featuring Punk as the title champion, which could provide AEW the opportunity to boost its image and gain a new fan base thanks to Punk’s fame. It’s not going to happen.

“The most I’ve had ever wanted was to ever feel that I let any people down.” Punk said. “The most important thing I never wanted to be able to do was leave you feeling dissatisfied, so I’m hoping so far, I haven’t made you feel like that. I’ve loved every single moment I’ve spent inside this diamond. Every moment I’ve spent in this ring with everyone is a blessing I never imagined I’d get to repeat.”

The tweet was posted at 8.15 p.m. in the evening on Friday night that Punk was going to appear on Rampage making an announcement pertaining to AEW world championship, as well as his request for viewers to tune in that immediately sparked concerns about injuries that were confirmed. Punk stated that he doesn’t intend to put AEW to its own with its numerous individuals it has to choose from who could be champions. He spoke of Bryan Danielson and Moxley. Punk promises to return to claim his place at the top of the list. “The comeback is more important than the setback,” Punk said. “I’m champion because of a reason and I’ll tell you the reason. I’ll be back stronger faster, more powerful, and more hungry than I have ever been and, god forbid, I’ll proved that I’m the best in the world!”
