Arsenal uncertain on £55m Jesus deal

Arsenal is considering their options after being informed Manchester City will require PS55 million from the north London side in order to sign Gabriel Jesus, ESPN sources said.

Arsenal are looking to sign at least one forward, and they have spoken with the 25-year old about a move.

The two clubs have made contact and ESPN sources claim that Arsenal are not happy with City’s valuation considering he has only one year remaining on his contract.

The amount is determined by City’s respect for the player (who has scored 95 goals in his 235 appearances) and also the desire to recover the EUR60m fee that Borussia Dortmund paid to Erling Haaland.

Pep Guardiola, the City boss, would prefer Jesus to stay but won’t stand in his way if he wants to push for him to leave.

Jesus started 20 Premier League games this season. He previously expressed frustration at not being involved more often.

Marcelo Pettinati, Jesus’ agent, confirmed to The Guardian last week that discussions had taken place. He said that “we like the Project” and that six clubs were in the frame.

Arsenal has since lost two times to Tottenham Hotspur as well as Newcastle United. This leaves them in danger of not being able to play Champions League football next year.

This will make it more difficult to strike a deal with Jesus, but not impossible.

Arsenal will wait until they see which European competition they qualify for before making their next move. However, ESPN sources tell ESPN that Arsenal didn’t expect to finish in the top 4 this season. Therefore, their long-term budgeting is not affected by this slump.

It remains to be seen if they will pursue a deal with Jesus. Mikel Arteta, the head coach of Arsenal, is a big fan of the player after working with him at City. However, Arsenal are also looking at Paulo Dybala who will be leaving Juventus for a free transfer at end of season.

Arsenal has reached out to Dybala’s representatives in order to determine the terms of Dybala’s personal agreement.

ESPN has been told by sources that Dybala’s entourage met in London and Manchester, before traveling to Spain and Italy for similar discussions. Dybala is currently weighing his options before making a decision about his next club.

Inter Milan has been long considered a potential destination, but Manchester United as well as Newcastle are also being closely monitored by Dybala.
